Saint Joseph Learning Center's academic approach is founded on CONSTRUCTIVISM, an active process in which students create new ideas and concepts based on prior knowledge.

The student selects and transforms information, builds hypotheses and makes decisions based on a cognitive structure (previous experiences, mental models). This structure facilitates the meaning and organization of experiences, thus allowing the student to go beyond the information given.

The teacher supports and guides students to discover new concepts for themselves, encourages dialogue, and organizes the information to be taught in a format appropriate to the student's understanding.

The curriculum is taught in a spiral model so that the student builds on what he or she has already learned.

Constructivism is based mainly on theories focused on studying how the brain works in learning.

Our educational programs, as well as the textbooks used in school, are based on international standards of:

  • The International Reading Association
  • The National Association for the Education of Young Children
  • The National Council of Teachers of English
  • The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
  • The National Science Teachers Association
